#jollamobile log for Tuesday, 2016-11-22

mal-difficult to say, maybe that just won't work unless that final package is updated and that cannot be done00:00
sobukusmal-: So … I can of course test if the recording now works over 4 GiB … but the other option really would be to fetch that source package and install a patched plugin package for 1.4.500:01

sobukusIf there was a feature to set recording for a fixed amount of time, I could test right now. But I gotta sleep, too.00:02
mal-sobukus: not closed source but has closed source dependencies00:04
mal-sobukus: it should be reasonably easy to build the patched package somewhere00:05
mal-at least for me :)00:05
mal-I can do that tomorrow00:05
sobukusmal-: I have no idea.00:06
sobukusOops. Scratch that. Not that it's not true, but it was in the wrong place.00:06
sobukusmal-: Thanks for your efforts. Good night, though, I presume.00:07

sobukusWell, it's later. I'll resolve that tomorrow. Perhaps it's related to the gstreamer version mismatch.00:10

r0kk3rzi expect the new webview component to be embedlite11:01
mornfallr0kk3rz: I expect webview to be qtwebview11:02
mornfallotherwise the naming is ... very unfortunate11:02
r0kk3rzwe already had qtwebview11:02
coderusr0kk3rz: it's unbelievable... https://github.com/sailfishos/sailfish-components-webview11:03
Stskeepschrome is called webview on android too though11:03

mornfallr0kk3rz: don't we still have qtwebkit? it's only been deprecated in qt 5.511:04
mornfallok, I am officially losing track of what is what11:05
mornfallqtwebview is a frontend to qtwebkit and/or qtwebengine? or it's a third thing11:05
larstiqand obviously apple has their WebView, it's just a term for technology11:05
r0kk3rzyeah, there you go, embedlite qml component, very cool11:06
r0kk3rzsorry perhaps i meant qtwebkit, as you say names are confusing11:07
mornfalllarstiq: so there's qtwebview that uses qtwebkit (or qtwebengine in newer qt?) and silica-webview that uses gecko?11:08
r0kk3rzmornfall: i think qtwebview is a wrapper for platform webviews on android and ios11:09
r0kk3rzanyway, doesnt matter, we still only have 2 engines and with the possibility of only one now11:10
mornfallr0kk3rz: would that make qtwebview and silica-webview the same, but the latter silicized?11:10
r0kk3rzeh, no idea11:10
mornfall(since presumably, the native webview for sailfish is gecko)11:10
mornfallr0kk3rz: I don't think the qt-provided web engine can be removed11:11
mornfallso the only way to have 1 would be to use the one from qt11:11
mornfallr0kk3rz: but you are right, I confused webview for webengine, which I'd have expected to get in eventually11:12

sobukusNot that I use here haps, but this sounds like … well … OK, the positive side: The Android layer becomes more love so that I can play openttd in it without crashing.13:06
sobukusAlthough, a native port for that should be in order. It should not be that hard …13:06

mornfallsobukus: we hear you like trains...13:13
sobukusIt works with the touchpad/laptop mode mouse emulation. But granted, the click events from the touchscreen are sometimes accidental.13:13
sobukusAnd it being a C/SDL app to begin with, I guess the Adroid port is the weird thing, not a native Sailfish app.13:13
r0kk3rzsobukus: compile it, whats the worst than can happen13:14

kimmoligood luck with that...13:15
kimmolior just for mersdk?13:15
sobukusI'm talking about building vbox for the SDK. I'm on a source-based disro and I need to hack the virtualbox package to build in C++11 mode as our Qt requires that.13:16
r0kk3rzeehh, that sounds convenient13:16
mornfallr0kk3rz: the glorious "compile on your pc" mentality :P instead of making hardware adaptations slightly less evil, so you could install lib*-dev on the device itself13:18
sobukusI built small stuff on the device itself already. Terminal stuff.13:18
mornfallor better, install a sfos-sanctioned OS in a VM, so it can install a VM-in-the-VM to cross-compile stuff for ARM13:19
mornfallsobukus: yeah, can be done, but not for "apps"13:19
mornfallwell, that can be done too13:19
sobukusWell, as I understood it, there isn't even cross compiling going on as a VM does the build.13:19
mornfallit's just damn inconvenient13:19
r0kk3rzmornfall: i dont think vbox likes being in a vm...13:19
mornfallr0kk3rz: maybe not, dunno13:19
r0kk3rzsobukus: you'd be better off with the platform sdk if you dont want to screw around with vbox13:20
mornfallin theory it could work at least, with the nested page tables and stuff13:20
sobukusOK, so I got eduroam setup (will sailfish be able to give the GUI Roamer does by default some time?) … can download the early access update now.13:20
r0kk3rzsobukus: look at the HADK and setting up local repos and scratchbox13:20
mornfallsobukus: there is a compilation VM, yes, but it's x86 set up with an arm cross toolchain13:20

bennypr0faneHi, so what's currently the preferred way to make a 128GB sdcard work in the Jolla phone?19:37
bennypr0faneand 2.: where do you look for support for Android apps? I mean the makers of Android apps don't offer support if you run them under Sailfish - Jolla won't support them because they're Android....19:39
r0kk3rzbennypr0fane: format to a filesystem of your choice19:47

bennypr0faner0kk3rz: is it possible to do that on the Jolla? exFAT won't work, will it?19:49
r0kk3rzsure, its even got a format button on the UI19:52
r0kk3rznot sure about exfat, you might be able to install something for it19:52
phlixinever had actual problems with my 64gb; back then i was advised to use btrfs. never had problems using the card for, 2(?) years now19:54
bennypr0fanephlixi: afaik, 64GB cards don't need to use exFAT, they still work with regular FAT19:55
bennypr0fanemy Jolla doesn't recognize my 128GB card19:55
phlixii thought 32 is the upper limit for fat19:55
phlixibut not sure about that19:55
bennypr0fanephlixi: I only know for sure 128 must use exfat or a free file system19:56
phlixiactually i am pretty sure that backj then i used btrfs because fat wasnotpossible back then19:56
phlixiputtin gin the card, rebooting and then check settings does not show the card? then its too vomplicated for me... maybe someone else might know how you get it running19:57
bennypr0faner0kk3rz: so that format used in the sailfish GUI is btrfs, or ext4?19:57

bennypr0faneactually, which app exactly has that format button ?19:57
phlixisetting, => storage? (wild guess)19:58
bennypr0faneand issue no 3: what do you guys do about the wild auto-killing of apps? here: https://together.jolla.com/question/137198/lowmemorykiller-vs-oom-killer/ it is suggested that using oom killer instead of lowmemorykiller should help. Older threads on TMO seem to suggest that oom was used in earlier versions of SfOS - lowmemorykiller introduced maybe for 2.0???20:00
phlixijust checked, settings app, go to "storage", then tap the sd card, and pulley option "format"20:00
phlixibtw nowadays, there is a filebrowser hidden under settings => storage20:01
r0kk3rzbennypr0fane: i have no idea what filesystem, ive never actually done it20:03
r0kk3rzat a guess id say ext420:03
bennypr0fanephlixi: thanks, will try that!20:06
bennypr0fanedo you guys also have problems with the OS always killing apps off? I really feel we don't have actual multitasking anymore...20:06

phlixithis is no new complain, it comes up every now and then. i personally have no such problems. very very rarely some app gets killed. I assume those with such problems have a lot more apps open then i do20:07
attahbennypr0fane: only with a few heavy-ish android apps and browsing some webpage that is poorly made (javascript, humongous pictures, ...)20:08
